New Watercolor Palette

• I just bought a new watercolor palette and have it all set up and thought I would share the process with my watercolor artist friends. I am now using the Stephen Quiller Porcelain Palette, an update from my previous plastic variety. The old plastic one has been in my studio for many years, but was beginning to crack and I decided to upgrade to the porcelain for sturdiness and better color mixing.

• The palette will hold 32 colors and has a large mixing area in the middle. The colors mix more smoothly on the porcelain surface than on plastic palettes with no beading of the colors on the smooth surface.
• The circular layout allows you to arrange your colors in the same order as the color wheel encouraging better use of complemtary colors for mixing new colors from the primary and secondary colors.
• I fill the wells with paint and label the wells with masking tape. When the paint dries in between painting sessions I spray with a spray bottle to activate the paint before use.
• The palette rests on top of a small set of drawers on wheels which I purchased at www.hobbylobby.com/. Wait for the sale or use the coupon for 40 percent off .
• In the top drawer I store the extra tubes of paint.
