Quick Story
The thing I remember about vet school, just like high school, everyone had their click. Think 'The Breakfast Club' Movie here. In vet school, there was the dog and cat click, the horse click and the farm/large animal click.
And everyone KNEW when you were out of your element. The small animal clinicians loved to pick on those that were farm raised, and the equine clinicians lived to call out those students who had never been within five feet of a horse, and the farm animal teachers had more than a few laughs at the city folk who did not know their way around a cattle farm.
To be honest, I could hold my own in the small animal and equine rotations, but being a New York City native, I struggled a bit when it was my turn to treat those cows. They were nothing at all like giving meds to a Golden Retriever and I was a bit surprised that they behaved nothing like an overgrown Quarter Horse with horns.
I was slightly traumatized one late night on duty in Large Animal ICU when left alone to treat a very large cow with a newborn calf. I can't tell you how many times she chased me out of her stall with just a look and a stomp of her foot, before I finally got her IV meds in her catheter.
So glad there were no security cameras in action back in the day, because I KNOW the large animal clinicians would be having coffee at morning rounds and cracking jokes as they watched me running in and out of that stall too many times to count !
Well, just saying, cows are way more fun to paint than to give medicine to :)
Hope you enjoy the collection,
Yours,
